Sacrifice

"Why do I always have to sacrifice?" That's what I heard this morning when I came in to work. I hate that question / statement. Hearing that made me oh sooo mad. I just wanted to burst out in flames and strangle the person who said it. 2 people called in absent today, so there's only 5 people instead of the normal 7 people. When I arrived at the office, I went straight to the canteen to buy some much needed breakfast. Lo and behold, who do I see, 2 other agents who are on break. I'm all jittery already because I'm still sick and today's not much better but I had to go in because I have to submit a report. So when I went up, they were still not there. When they got back, I asked them why both of them went for break. They said that it's their scheduled break. I said, yes, i understand that but how come 2 of you left. There's only 3 people left to man the queue. I would expect that the other person (who kept saying that he's the top agent of the whole company for 6mos in a row for a company of 4k++ agents, who got the best CSAT scores for 6mos, who got the best agent award for 6mos in a row) would have the common sense to not take break just like that. And guess what he said, "Why do I always have to sacrifice my break for the queue?"

Oh my, oh my. I could not help but burst and say, "I'm not saying you can't take your break, I'm saying, why do you need to take your break at the same time when you specifically know that there are 2 people out absent already?" And he answered, "So why do I have to sacrifice?" I responded with "Who said you were sacrificing your break? Don't misunderstand me. I'm not telling you that you are not allowed to take your break because 2 people are absent. What I am saying is why does it have to be the 2 of you on break at the same time?" Then he said, "how about my scheduled lunch? I can't take that too?" Now, at this time, all I'm thinking, where the hell did your brain and common sense go? It must be left somewhere in the depths of whatever because he did not get me. He's just trying to make up excuses. And what pissed me off more was that this guy was vying for a promotion. If he gets promoted with this attitude, the world will end... In any case, I responded with "I'm disappointed with your response. I would assume that you have the common sense to help this small team out since you already have the prior experience before but looks like your words are totally opposite what you're doing. Oh well. I can't do anything because its already passed. Forget it." I ended with that and looked at my laptop again, concentrating on my reports.

Sacrifice... I thought I would be doing it all over again, but hell, with this set of people, who gives a shit... I'm not working my ass off for someone who does not appreciate it. I'm not that stupid anymore... I'm only doing what I'm told. No more above and beyond that what is required.
